The Warrenton boys basketball team mounted a fourth-quarter comeback but ultimately fell short Tuesday, falling to the Washington Blue Jays by four points.
The Warriors (3-18) closed the third quarter on a 5-0 run to trim the Blue Jays’ lead to nine points at the end of three quarters. After seeing the deficit increase to 13 points in the fourth quarter, the Warriors cut the Blue Jays’ lead to three with 1:15 remaining. Issiah Jones banked in a three pointer to pull the Warriors within one point with just under 25 seconds left. The Warriors were unable to pull any closer and fell by a 68-64 final score.
Warrenton led the Blue Jays 17-15 after the first quarter. The Blue Jays carried a 33-31 lead into halftime and led the Warriors 50-41 after three quarters.
The Warriors were paced in scoring by sophomore Joe Goldsmith. He led the team with 28 points.
The loss is the Warriors’ fifth straight loss following a 64-63 win over Winfield High School Jan. 21. Warrenton will square off again against Winfield High School Friday.
Wildcats fall on road
The Wright City High School boys basketball team dropped a road game at North Callaway High School Tuesday.
The Wildcats (3-16) fell 79-53. The Wildcats are scheduled to face Clopton High School on the road Friday. They have home games against Van-Far, Silex and Wellsville scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday next week.

Lady Warriors fall on road at Marquette
The third quarter proved to be the difference in the Warrenton girls basketball team’s loss Tuesday.
The Lady Warriors (10-8) fell 53-46 in a road game at Marquette High School. The Lady Warriors trailed 31-28 at halftime. Marquette High School used a 13-6 third quarter advantage to extend its lead to 10 points. The Lady Warriors outscored Marquette 12-9 in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Warriors were slated to face St. Charles in a road game Wednesday. They are scheduled to host Winfield High School Friday. They have three games slated for next week.
