Relay teams lead the way for Wildcats at EMO Meet

The sprinting ability and smooth handoffs were in sync for the Wright City track team ast last week’s Eastern Missouri Conference Meet.

Two of the girls’ relay teams placed first and all four of the boys’ relays finished in the top four as the Wildcats’ depth was on display.

Those performances helped the Wright City girls place third in the conference out of 11 schools with 84.5 points at the meet held April 25 at Montgomery County High School. The host school  won the girls team crown with 122.5 points, with Mark Twain finishing runner-up with 115.50 points.

In the boys standings, the Wildcats were fourth with 54 points. Bowling Green compiled 195 points to win the conference title, with Montgomery County (142) and Louisiana (137) rounding out the top three.

The foursome of Lydia Clubb, Lindsay Pettus, Elizabeth Riggs and Adalyn Ferrell led the 4x200 relay to first in 1 minute, 50.98 seconds. Mark Twain was second in 1:51.42.

The same group also led the Wildcats to first in the 4x400 in 4:20.20, easily winning the race by 10 seconds over runner-up Louisiana.

In the boys relay races, the 4x200 and 4x400 both took third. The foursome of Kayden Allison, Kaden Cross, Terrance Love and Dayton Humphreys finished the race in 1:38.70. In the 4x400, the group of Seth Leander Potter, Leon Schrader, Andrew Staats and Humphreys had a time of 3:45.71. 

The Wildcats’ two other relays placed fourth. The 4x100 relay of Allison, Cross, Humphreys and Love finished in 47.42. The 4x800 consisting of Noah Boekman, Keagan Loeffler, Staats and Schrader recorded a time of 9:34.45.

The Wildcats did have two individuals capture conference titles. Lydia Clubb won the 100-meter dash in 12.82 seconds and Riggs placed first in the 300-meter hurdles in 48.03. 

Clubb also added a second-place finish in the 200 in 27.15. Jenna Ross of Mark Twain won the race in 26.54. Riggs also was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 17.80. Wellsville-Middletown’s Bethany Slovensky took first in 16.06.

Wright City had another second-place finish from Johnson, who cleared 9-0 in the pole vault. El Reagan of Montgomery County won the event (9-6.25).

On the boys side, Mason Wendt was the lone individual to place in the top three for the Wildcats. He took third in the shot put with a throw of 42-3.25. Montgomery County’s Conner Finke won the event (43-2.5).
