For the second year in a row, the Warrenton football team are the GAC North Conference Champions. The Warriors earned the title after beating the undefeated Orchard Farm Eagles 42-21.
In the first quarter, Austin Haas rushed a one-yard touchdown. Orchard Farm responded quickly to tie up the score 7-7.
Haas broke through the defense again in the second quarter and ran a 40-yard touchdown. A few minutes later, Brandon Johnson threw a deep pass to Austin White for a 48-yard touchdown. The Warriors went into halftime leading 21-14.
Coming into the second half, Warrenton came out even stronger. Johnson ran for a big 48-yard touchdown. Earlier in the third, Peyton Dawson denied a touchdown pass from Orchard Farm for an offensive return.
The Warriors’ defense kept putting the pressure on the Eagles’ offense. Javon Jones recorded one sack. Later, Jones, Cole Meyer and Taylor Anderson all contributed to another quarterback sack. White also caught an interception near the Eagles’ 10-yard line.
Late in the fourth, Johnson recorded his second touchdown of the night on a 10-yard run. Jones cemented the Warrior’s lead by scoring on a 39-yard run. In the next play, Orchard Farm did score from a kickoff return, but the title was already in Warrenton’s hands.
Now with an 8-0 record and a back-to-back conference title, the Warriors are feeling better than ever. More on the story in the Oct. 24 edition.
