A missed extra point with less than a minute remaining helped Warrenton win their district playoff opener over Lutheran St. Charles.

Warrenton (10-0) beat Lutheran St. Charles (3-7) 21-20 in the Class 4, District 4 quarterfinals. Lutheran St. Charles was unable to convert on the extra point after scoring a touchdown with 57 seconds remaining. Warrenton's Kadin Stroer recovered the onside kick attempt to clinch the victory for Warrenton.

Austin Haas' second touchdown of the game gave Warrenton a 21-14 lead with 6:51 remaining. Haas' touchdown run came two plays after Warrenton blocked the Cougar punt attempt.

After trailing 7-0 after one quarter, Warrenton scored a pair of second quarter touchdowns to take a 14-7 lead into halftime. Haas scored on a 2-yard touchdown run to tie the game. Chance McPike intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown with less than a minute left in the first half.

Lutheran St. Charles scored a defensive touchdown on the opening possession of the third quarter to tie the game at 14-14.

Warrenton will travel to Parkway North (8-1) next week to take on the district's top seed in the district semifinals.
