Warrenton welcomes new activities director

Posted

Starting July 1, Warrenton local Andrew Arnette will become Warrenton High School’s new activities director. His predecessor, Kevin Fowler will be retiring on June 30 after working at the school since 2007. In the last six years, Fowler was the activities director.

During his time at Warrenton, Fowler was also a wrestling and football coach.

Arnette has lived in Warrenton for the past five years and initially went for the job because he was looking to work in administration. He also noted that since he has four kids all under the age of nine, it would be a good spot for him and his family once they get older.

“I’ve coached multiple sports in my career so it seemed like a no brainer to at least apply when I live in town,” Arnette said.

Arnette’s life has revolved around sports for his entire life. He played football, basketball and baseball in high school and was in band and numerous clubs. He then went on to play collegiate baseball at Lindenwood University.

In addition, Arnette has also coached baseball, football and basketball at numerous high schools in Missouri. During his seven years at Orchard Farm High School, Arnette was the head baseball coach, junior varsity baseball coach and assistant football coach. At Sullivan High School, he was the head football and baseball coach and coached the middle school and high school basketball teams for six years.

Lastly, Arnette was the assistant football, basketball and baseball coach at Sherwood High School for four years.

“I’m excited to get going and to make sure we’re recognizing all of our student-athletes and their accomplishments,” Arnette said. “I want to bring that level of excitement to the school all year round.”

Arnette plans on picking up where Fowler left off and helping out with the new men’s volleyball and stunt programs that the school has recently added. He is also looking forward to meeting more people in the community.

“I know some people just from living in the community, but it’s a completely different ballgame when you’re involved in the school and you get to meet everyone, so I’m excited to do that,” Arnette said.

With plans to keep school spirit up year round, Arnette has already brought his children to some of Warrenton’s sporting events. He also notes that his daughter is already talking about getting into the cheerleading program, despite the fact that she is only eight years old.

With only a little over a month to go before he officially starts, Arnette is eager to fully immerse himself within the community and continue to build up these programs.

“I know there was a lot of success with the football program last year and that was exciting to see just living in Warrenton,” Arnette said. “I’m hoping that we can continue to build upon that.”
