Wright City hosts free spay and neuter clinic

Posted

A free mobile clinic was hosted in Wright City courtesy of Stray Rescue of St. Louis on Aug. 23 that spayed and neutered 11 cats and 13 dogs. The event was sponsored and paid for by Lynda and Bob Baker, among others.

“Sponsors come in like myself and my husband, … And we just offer it to low income families that can’t afford it, and it includes vaccines and microchips as well,” said Lynda.

Stray Rescue of St. Louis offers their mobile clinic to sponsors for a cost of $2,500 and has the capacity to spay and neuter 24 animals during the one-day events.

“It’s very simple, stray rescue handles it all,” said Lynda. “They handle the sign ups, and getting back and forth to everybody, I don’t do anything but write a check.”

Along with the Bakers, other sponsors of the event included Christie Pink, Rodney and Trish Harrison, Stacy and Leonard Zeid, Laura and Brad Benning, Nancy and John Benz, Dan and Pat Reuter, Mary and John Simon, Cindi and Larry Tilly and Mike and Kim Lyles.

The cost breaks down to roughly $100 per animal, which Lynda noted is significantly cheaper than what the procedure can cost at a veterinarian’s office. She felt it was important to provide the service to those who could not afford it on their own to help local shelters that are already inundated with animals.

“We’re in a crisis right now in the country, there are more animals than there are shelters or homes,” said Lynda.

While Stray Rescue St. Louis has booked their mobile clinic through 2024, they are accepting sponsorships through 2025 with the first opening available in April of next year. Those interested in sponsoring a clinic can reach out to Chief Development Officer Aimee Dearsley at aimee@strayrescue.org.
