Warriors place fifth at Ft. Zumwalt North Invite

Emanuel McCauley’s first place finish and Anthony Lombardo’s second place finish helped the Warrenton Warriors place fifth as a team at the Ft. Zumwalt North Invite last weekend. 

McCauley was 5-0 on the day to finish first in the 106-pound weight class. McCauley pinned Ethan Anders of Winsor, Mason Link of Pacific, Taylor Souders of St. Charles and Chase Youngwirth of Hannibal. McCauley beat Jacob Bals of Ft. Zumwalt North on a 4-0 decision to finish the day undefeated. 

Warrior wrestler Anthony Lombardo went 2-1 on the day to place second in the 165-pound weight class. Lombardo beat Union wrestler Michael Alvarado 13-3 in the opening round. He earned a 6-4 overtime win over Fulton wrestler Elijah Brocksmith to advance to the championship match. Lombardo fell to Peyton Shaver of Festus 2-0 in the championship match. 

Levi Penrod, Jacob Ruff and Nicholas Schulze each placed third in their respective weight classes. Schulze and Ruff both went 3-1 on the day. 

Wrestling in the 132-pound weight class, Schulze won his first two matches of the day to advance to the semifinals. He pinned Xavier Meyers of Rock roves of Lift for Life Academy Charter. Schulze was pinned by Liberty wrestler Aidan Kelly in less than one minute in the semifinal matchup. Schulze pinned Kurl Conato of Union in 55 seconds to place third in this weight class. 

Ruff placed third in the 190-pound weight class. Ruff pinned Will Clarkson of St. Francis Borgia and Matthew Wiegand of Capital City in a combined 1:27 to advance to the semifinals. Ruff dropped a 9-2 decision to Battle wrestler Austen Wetzel in the semifinals. Ruff beat Deacon Moran of Ft. Zumwalt North on a 5-0 decision to place third in the competition. 

Penrod won a pair of matches to place third in the 150-pound weight class. Penrod beat Nate Clarkson of St. Francis Borgia 21-6. After falling to Ft. Zumwalt North wrestler Cole Aguirre 7-2 in the semifinals, Penrod beat Blayne McDermott of Sikeston on an 8-2 decision in the third place match. 

Joshua Kassing and Noah Lohrmann both rebounded from opening match losses to place fifth in their weight classes. Kassing won a pair of matches to place fifth. Lohrmann won four consecutive matches to place fifth in the 126-pound weight class. Lohrmann beat Kai Foster of Fulton on an 11-5 decision in the fifth place match after falling to Foster in the opening match of the day. 

Freshman Allison Vacek led the Lady Warrior wrestlers with a fourth place finish in the 170-pound weight class. Vacek pinned her first two opponents of the day to advance to the semifinals. Vacek beat T’aliyah Williams of McCluer and Dannah Matzenbacher of North Point. She fell to Carly Foster of Fulton in the semifinals. She lost to Sidney Zimmerman of Hannibal in the third place match. 

Madisen Nash went 3-2 in the 145-pound weight class to place seventh. She pinned Nia Perniciaro of Lindbergh in 1:20. She beat Hailey Paul of Francis Howell Central 7-2 and Maddy Kunn of Liberty on a 7-4 decision. 

The Warrenton boys wrestling team dropped a pair of duals last week. They lost to Hannibal 42-32 and Helias Catholic 47-16. The Lady Warriors fell to Hannibal 6-0. Kassing and Ruff won two contested matches on the day. McCauley won one contested match and a second match by forfeit. 

The Warrenton boys and girls wrestling teams are slated to compete at the Liberty Invitational in Wentzville this weekend.
