Warrenton wins team title at St. Charles Invite

Warrenton wins team title at St. Charles Invite

Seven out of 10 competing Warrenton wrestlers made it to the championship match in their weight class to help the Warriors win the St. Charles Invite. 

Warrenton accumulated 235 team points during the competition, earning them a first place team finish. The Warriors were led by four wrestlers who went undefeated during the competition and won their weight class. 

Warrenton’s Joshua Kassing, Manny McCauley and Zayden Teson each went 4-0 to win their weight class. Jacob Ruff won all three of his matches to win his weight class. 

Competing in the 106-pound weight class, Teson won three of his four matches by fall to win the weight class. After winning his first three matches by fall, Teson beat Carlos Juarez Ramirez of Mexico on a 6-0 decision in the championship match. 

McCauley won all four of his matches by fall to win the 113-pound weight class. He won his first two matches in less than a minute each. After he beat Brayden Arnold of Mexico by fall in one minute in the semifinals, McCauley pinned Devon Trail of Holt in 42 seconds to win his championship match. 

Joshua Kassing also won multiple matches by fall. He won his first three matches by fall to advance to the championship match in the 132-pound weight class. He won the weight class with a victory on a 4-2 decision over Kiam Borsmiller of Orchard Farm. 

Ruff won all three of his matches by fall in the 215-pound weight class. Ruff pinned Luke Perkins of Holt in 1:13 in the championship match. 

Jeremiah Kassing, Noah Lohrmann and Max Teson all lost just one match and placed second in their weight classes. Kassing won his first two matches in the 126-pound weight class. He beat Camden Brown of St. Charles by fall and Russell Dunkmann of Orchard Farm on an 11-2 major decision. He fell to Fulton wrestler Cole Blattner in the championship match. 

Lohrmann’s lone loss of the day came to state champion Kaden Purler of North Point in the 138-pound weight class. Lohrmann won a pair of matches by fall and another on a 15-1 major decision to advance to the championship match. He dropped a 12-2 major decision to Purler. 

Max Teson won a pair of matches by fall to open the 144-pound weight class competition. After earning a win over Kamron Watson of Hazelwood East by forfeit, Teson dropped a 7-1 decision to Mexico wrestler Kyler Carr in the championship match. 

Warrenton wrestlers Korben Johnson and Lucas Burroughs each won four matches to earn top-five finishes. After dropping his quarterfinal match, Johnson won three consecutive matches in the consolation bracket to advance to the third place match. Johnson earned three of his four wins during the competition by fall. He fell to Brady Rose of Waterloo in the third place match. 

Burroughs won four matches to place fifth in the 190-pound weight class. After dropping his opening match to Kolton Martin of Liberty, Burroughs won three consecutive matches by fall. Burroughs rebounded from a loss in the consolation semifinals and beat Tristan Shannon of Hazelwood East on a 3-2 decision to place fifth. 

Warrenton wrestler Jamarion Fulton won two matches. He competed in the 157-pound weight class. 

Lady Warriors compete at St. Charles 

Two Warrenton grapplers earned top-five finishes at the St. Charles Invite. 

Warrenton sophomore Allison Vacek was the top finisher among all Lady Warrior wrestlers. Vacek earned a pair of wins and placed fourth in the 155-pound weight class. Both of Vacek’s wins came by fall. She fell to Lily Morales of Parkway Central in the third place match. 

Alexis Ruff won three matches and placed fifth in the 115-pound weight class. All three of Ruff’s wins came by fall, including a win over Ladue Horton Watkins wrestler Madeline Summers in 2:09 in the fifth place match. 

Dakota Lohrmann and Natalie Sibert also competed for Warrenton. 

The Warrenton wrestling teams are slated to compete in home matches Jan. 18.
