The Warrenton Warriors came up with big plays in overtime to beat Parkway North and advance to the district finals.
Warrenton (11-0), the No. 4 seed in Class 4, District 4, earned a road win over No. 1 district seed Parkway North (8-2) 28-21. The Warriors will travel to Hannibal to take on the Pirates in next week's district championship game.
After Parkway North missed a 24-yard field goal at the end of regulation, Warrenton struck first in overtime on Charlie Blondin's 19-yard touchdown run on the third play of their offensive possession. Jacob Ruff and Javon Jones registered sacks on third and fourth down of Parkway North's overtime possession to punch Warrenton's ticket to the district final.
After falling behind 7-0 on a special teams touchdown from Parkway North, Warrenton responded with a 75-yard touchdown drive. Blondin threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Mason Thompson to get Warrenton on the board. The game was tied 7-7 at halftime.
Warrenton took the opening possession of the second half and drove 63 yards for a touchdown, capped off by Austin Haas' 3-yard touchdown run. Warrenton led 14-7 after three quarters.
Parkway North's Messiah Smith rushed for a 7-yard touchdown on 4th and 1 to bring the Vikings back to a 14-14 tie. Warrenton responded with a 60-yard touchdown drive. Haas scored on a 3-yard touchdown run to give Warrenton a 21-14 lead with 4:05 remaining. Parkway North scored the game-tying touchdown less than a minute later.
After Warrenton turned the ball over on downs with 1:25 remaining, Parkway North drove to the Warrenton 7-yard line before missing the potential game-winning field goal.
