Teddy bears and tea in Wright City

Posted

Wright City celebrated its annual Teddy Bear Tea Party on Feb. 10 inside the Heiliger Building at Diekroeger Park.

The event brought out 27 kids, mostly girls between the ages of 3 and 9, but there were a few little brothers present, too.

The event featured a photo booth, craft tables, fingernail painting, cookie decorating, story time, an etiquette presentation, and finally, the tea party.

The etiquette presentation was given by Laura Behle, who served as a nanny in England. She told the assembled children what it was like to have a proper tea with an English lord.

The kids then took their seats and were served “tea” — fruit juice or apple juice — some chopped strawberries and blueberries, quartered grilled cheese and chips, and cupcakes with a pretzel in the side to make them look like tea cups.

Each participant also had a chance to choose two prizes, ranging from Matchbox cars to magic wands to whistles, and were given a teddy bear before leaving.

“We got lots of accolades about the enjoyment of the children,” Renee Cody, the events coordinator for the Wright City Parks Department, said. “The parents enjoyed it as well and our volunteers were super and it was a beautiful day.”
