Seven Wright City grapplers medal at St. Clair

Every point was required for Wright City to earn a second place finish at the St. Clair Classic. 

Wright City finished the St. Clair Classic with 147 team points to earn a second place team finish. Wright City beat Sullivan by 0.5 points to place second. 

Kali Jensen and Elizabeth Riggs led the way with first place finishes in their weight class. They both went undefeated over the course of the tournament. 

Jensen went 4-0 to place first in the 115-pound weight class. Jensen won all four of her matches by fall. She beat Elizabeth Adams of Owensville in 3:35 to win her weight class. 

Riggs won all three of her matches to win the 125-pound weight class. After winning her first two matches by fall in a combined 40 seconds, Riggs beat Lindsay Rampani of St. Clair on an 11-6 decision to win the weight class. 

Four Lady Wildcat wrestlers registered third place finishes to also receive medals. Liliana Wiedemeier won her final three matches and four matches during the tournament to place third in the 120-pound weight class. She beat Ft. Zumwalt East wrestler Lucy Ballard by fall in 5:22 in the third place match. 

Sadie Sehnert and Samantha Yates went 3-2 to place third in their weight class. Yates placed third in the 110-pound weight class. She beat Owensville wrestler Jenna Vandegriffe by fall in four minutes in the third place match. Sehnert placed third in the 130-pound weight class. She earned all three of her wins by fall. 

Ella Greenwell won two matches in the 235-pound weight class. Greenwell earned both of her wins by fall to place third in the weight class.  

Five Wright City boys wrestlers also competed at the St. Clair Classic. Joseph Beitel had the top performance among the boys wrestlers, with a second place finish in the 144-pound weight class. Beitel won his first four matches to advance to the championship match. He earned three wins by decision and one match by fall. He fell to Tyler Blake of Hillsboro in the championship match. Evan Baum, Gavin McCord and Quincy Rice each earned one win. 

Earlier last week, Wright City competed in dual matches at Warrenton. The Wright City girls wrestling team earned a 42-12 win over Warrenton. The Wright City boys wrestling team fell to Lift for Life Academy 30-24 and Warrenton 84-0 in dual matches last week. 

Both wrestling teams have competitions slated for this weekend. The Wright City boys wrestlers will compete at Priory. The Wright City girls wrestling team will compete at Seckman.
