School closes early after false gunshot report

Posted

After alleged gunshots were reported at Wright City High School Monday afternoon, Wright City Superintendent Dr. Chris Berger said no actual threat has been detected and the report appears to be part of a series of false reports being made to schools around the region.

A call was placed to 911 at 12:42, reporting shots fired at Wright City High School. The Wright City Police Department arrived on scene three minutes later at 12:45 p.m. There were seven to eight law enforcement vehicles on site at 12:45, Berger reported. A sweep of the building was completed by 1 p.m. and the building was deemed stable. The high school had accounted for every student by 1:30 p.m.

Parents began picking up students at the high school football field at 1:45 p.m. The bus routes went out at 2:45 p.m., just 15 minutes after the normal 2:30 time. All after school activities were canceled.

Berger confirmed the high school will resume classes tomorrow. All activities are also planned to be held as scheduled tomorrow.
