The Warren County R-III school board has approved a negotiated staff agreement for the 2022-2023 school year.
District Superintendent Gregg Klinginsmith believes involved parties had a collaborative approach to negotiations. The negotiations included individuals from administration, staff and the school board.
“We were able to work through all of our issues this year rather quickly,” Klinginsmith said. “And so I did appreciate that collaborative working environment that we have with our staff.”
The negotiated staff agreement includes pay increases to various positions to $12 per hour. Food service employees, lunchroom monitors, latchkey and workroom employees, custodians and paraprofessionals all had pay increase to $12 per hour. This is to meet the new $12 minimum wage requirement. The base wage for lead custodians was increased to $13 per hour. Bus drivers and bus mechanics will make $17 per hour. Lead bus mechanics will make $20.23 per hour.
Insurance coverage did not change. The district will pay for a 6.93% cost increase.
Board president Ginger Schenck served on the committee. It was a positive experience, she said.
“Everybody was working together to try to come up with a fair deal for everybody,” Schenck said. “Of course, we always wish we could do more. But financially, we have to work within the budget that we have. And putting everybody’s minds together and talking through things really brought out some creative ideas like the signing bonus might attract some new employees. And it was just a good experience to give everyone a voice at the table.”
