Prom Boutique gives area teenagers a chance to dazzle in dresses

Posted

The hallways of Warrenton High School were decked with dresses of all colors during the annual Prom Boutique held Saturday, March 16.

Nearly 80 gowns were donated by Denise Davis of Wedding Wishlist, located at the Warrenton Outlet Mall. Area girls looking for a special event dress were encouraged to stop by for a look.

Bree Karr, school nurse, and teachers Elizabeth Hancock and Rachel Knox were on hand to provide encouragement and a lot of “oohs and aahs” as girls emerged from changing rooms wearing beautiful dresses beyond their imagination and budget.

Davis said she needed room on her racks at Wedding Wishlist for new inventory.

“What better place to bring them,” she said. “I would much rather donate to my local community. It is a win-win situation.”

Karr said anyone can donate dresses to the boutique at any time. The dresses can be used for any special occasion, not just the prom which is coming up April 20. In addition to dresses of all colors and styles, students could also browse shoes and bags.

“The prom ticket alone is a high dollar item. Prom should be unforgettable, not stressful,” said Karr. “We keep a closet of dresses all year round. Just contact the school to make arrangements.”

Paige Loeffler, a 10th grader at WHS, came to the event looking for a red dress. Instead, she was drawn to a magical gem encrusted light blue gown.

“I ended up getting a princess dress,” she said.

If you have a gently used special event dress you would like to donate, contact the school office or by emailing Bree Karr directly by using the faculty directory.
