Warren County Clerk Denise Stotler is the sole additional candidate to join in-county and state-level election filing over the last seven day period, staff in Stotler’s office told The Record on Tuesday.
The county clerk’s office is responsible for managing local elections, as well as maintaining the records of the Warren County Commission and carrying out a variety of administrative duties. Stotler is so far the only candidate seeking that office.
Candidate filing is underway for county and state elections that will take place in August and November. Candidates can register for the elections until March 29. These elections are separate from local municipal elections that are scheduled for April 5.
The first week of county-level election filing has almost exclusively seen incumbent office holders registering for re-election bids. Nine elected offices in Warren County will be on the ballot this year, and eight of them have the incumbent as the exclusive candidate so far. The remaining office, the recorder of deeds, has two first-time candidates running to succeed Deborah Engemann, who is retiring.
County offices that will be on the ballot this year are: presiding county commissioner, prosecuting attorney, collector, county clerk, treasurer, recorder of deeds, associate judge (Division 2), associate judge (Division 3) and circuit court clerk.
Candidate filing remains open at the clerk’s office until 5 p.m. March 29. The office is located in the County Administration Building at 101 Mockingbird Lane, Warrenton.
For questions, call 636-456-3331. Each candidate must bring identification and must pay a $100 filing fee. They are also required to complete a form indicating they owe no taxes and are able to meet bonding requirements if elected.
Offices in the Missouri Legislature and statewide elected positions will also be on the ballot later this year.
Bryan Spencer, who formerly represented the Wright City and Wentzville areas in the Missouri House of Representatives, declared his candidacy last week for State Senate District 10.
Spencer had announced his intentions to seek the office two years ago as he was leaving his final term in the House, and has been steadily fundraising for a campaign since then.
Two other candidates, Joshua Price of Mexico and Travis Fitzwater of Fulton, also filed for the District 10 Senate seat.
The tricky situation for these candidates, and for state Senate candidates across Missouri, is that no one knows what the actually boundaries of the Senate districts will look like for this election period. A bipartisan commission failed to agree upon a Senate district map during redistricting this year, leaving the process in the hands of a panel of appellate judges. The district map is expected to be revealed sometime before candidate filing ends on March 29.
