Letter: State is to blame for Highway O’s condition

Posted

To The Editor,

Let’s put the cause of Highway O’s destruction where it rightly belongs. It was not the weather’s fault. Winter happens every year around these parts.

The blame lies with the state’s inability or refusal to post a weight limit on the road. The trucks can still run it — just not fully loaded.

I know our representatives  in Jefferson City would scream “no restrictions on business.” But what about restrictions on the public’s use of a state highway? What about the tire and vehicle damage that occurred while people try to get to work? What other state’s highway department would just sit back and let a lettered highway be destroyed  in plain view  and do nothing? Only Missouri.

I hope the state can come up with the money to fix the road properly. Or will our governor give that money away to ‘good ’ole boy’ consulting firms  hired to do the work our state employees in Jefferson City should be doing?

I would hope the voters would have enough of the circus in Jefferson City and send our current representatives, senators and governor “down the road!”
