Warrenton senior Kendall Taylor hit a game-winning three-pointer with under a minute left to help Warrenton win another conference game.

Taylor connected on a three-pointer with 37 seconds remaining to give Warrenton a 66-65 lead over Orchard Farm. The win moved Warrenton (4-4) to 3-0 in conference play. The Lady Warriors beat St. Charles on the road and North Point at home earlier this season.

“This game was huge for us,” Warrenton girls basketball coach Hannah Logan said. “Our team goal is to win the conference. We are currently 3-0 in conference play and a win at home is always a great feeling. “

Warrenton trailed early in the game. Orchard Farm went on a 7-0 run to start the game. Audrey Payne scored six consecutive points to trim the deficit to 7-6 in the quarter. Orchard Farm outscored Warrenton 12-7 over the remainder of the quarter to lead 19-13 after one quarter.

Warrenton used a 7-0 run midway through the second quarter to tie the game at 29-29. Warrenton led 35-34 at halftime.

“The difference between the two quarters was the second quarter,” Logan said. “We worked harder on defense and we ran the court on offense for transition looks.”

Orchard Farm outscored the Lady Warriors 20-17 in the third quarter to take a 54-52 lead into the final quarter.

The Lady Eagles scored seven of the first nine points of the fourth quarter to lead 61-54 with about six minutes remaining. Sophi Mueller hit a three-pointer and Zoe Klaus scored on a contested layup to pull Warrenton within two points. After a defensive stop, Payne hit a pair of free throws to tie the game 61-61. After Orchard Farm scored to take a 63-61 lead, Nyasia Love scored on a contested layup to tie the game.

With just under one minute left, Mueller missed the front end of the one-and one. Orchard Farm secured the rebound and scored in transition with 44 seconds remaining to take a 65-63 lead. Taylor responded with a three-pointer with 37 seconds remaining to give Warrenton the lead.

Orchard Farm missed a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left. After a jump ball with about 13 seconds remaining, Orchard Farm missed a shot attempt that would have given Orchard Farm the lead. After Warrenton missed a free throw, Orchard Farm missed a runner from the free throw line as time expired to give Warrenton the one-point win.

Four Lady Warriors reached double figures in points in the win. Payne led Warrenton with 16 points. Erin Klasing added 15 points for the Lady Warriors. Klaus and Taylor each scored 12 points.

Warrenton is scheduled to compete in the Hy-Vee Arena Holiday Shootout in Kansas City Dec. 28 and Dec. 29. They are scheduled to play Smithsville Dec. 28 and Kirksville Dec. 29.
