A blaze completely destroyed the main structure of a single-story ranch home in the village of Innsbrook on Dec. 23.
No one was home at the time of the fire, so emergency responders weren’t alerted until a passerby saw the flames, according to Warrenton Fire Captain Jeff Dunn. Fortunately that meant no one was injured, Dunn said, but the house was a complete loss. Firefighters intervened in time to save a detached garage and its contents.
Fire crews were dispatched to the blaze just after 7:30 p.m. and spent the next four hours dousing the flames. The deployment also coincided with some of the coldest hours of last week’s arctic freeze, with outdoor temperatures below zero degrees.
Over 20 firefighters and more than 10 trucks from area fire agencies responded to help control the fire, Dunn said. Fire districts in Wright City, Marthasville, Wentzville, New Melle and Lincoln County all sent trucks and personnel, while Jonesburg-High Hill Fire District provided standby coverage for any other emergency calls in the Warrenton area.
Dunn said damage from the fire was so extensive that a cause couldn’t be determined.
“We weren’t able to do an investigation due to the extent of the fire,” Dunn commented. “There wasn’t anything left to investigate.”
