Woodson, of North Carolina, escaped from custody Tuesday night at the eastbound rest area on Interstate 70 in Wright City last night.
Woodson was being transported back to prison in North Carolina from Nebraska where he was testifying in an assault case in which he was a victim, according to Sutton.
A warrant was issued for Woodson's arrest by the Warren County prosecuting attorney's office for escaping from custody.
He was originally arrested in Orange County, North Carolina on charges of possession of a weapon by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest, violation of a protection order, two counts of breaking and entering and financial identity fraud.
