Defense helps Warrenton defeat Hallsville in girls basketball

The Warrenton girls basketball team struggled shooting the ball last Feb. 2, but relied on their defense to pull out a 33-25 triumph at Hallsville.

As a team, the Warriors made only 10 of 45 shots from the field, including 2-14 from long range. 

Nevaeh Hill led the squad with eight points and 12 rebounds. Isabel Benke and Nyasia Love each contributed seven points.

Warrenton is back home this Friday against St. Charles West. 

LCA girls get back to .500 

Lauren Moss and Hannah Steward each recorded double-double as Liberty Christian downed North County Christian  46-35 Jan. 30. 

Moss led the way with 20 points and 20 rebounds, while Steward followed with 11 points and 12 rebounds. 

Warrenton boys fall to FZS at  Southern Boone Classic

The Warrenton boys basketball team fell behind early and never recovered in Saturday’s 77-51 loss to Fort Zumwalt South at the Southern Boone Classic held in Ashland. 

Troy Anderson led the Warriors with 20 points, while Joe Goldsmith followed with 14. Both players drilled three 3-pointers in the loss. Elijah Peth also reached double figures with 11 points, while Evan Schenck was the lone other player to score with six points. 

Warrenton trailed 18-11 after the opening quarter and 40-26 at halftime. The Warriors are back in action at home this Thursday at 7 p.m. against St. Charles West.

Wildcats top Silex to win third straight

The Wildcats went on a fourth-quarter run to capture its third consecutive win Friday night at home.

Wright City led 22-16 at intermission, but saw its lead disappear as the Owls went on a 23-13 run in the third quarter. The Wildcats responded in the final eight minutes by outscoring Silex 25-12. 

No other statistics were reported by press time.

Four players reach double figures in  Liberty Christian win

Liberty Christian senior Jack Duvel scored a game-high 21 points as four players reached double figures in a 71-29 win over North County Christian Jan. 30. 

Tommy Meyer followed with 16 points, while Levi Coovert and Willy Mueller each had 12 points. Mueller also snagged 16 rebounds.
