Mr. David Lance Dent, of Warrenton, passed away on Tuesday, March 28. He was born on September 9, 1946, in Chariton, IA, to the late Harold and Jean (nee: Sinclair) Dent. Dave had reached the age of 76 years.

Dave proudly served our country in the United States Army in the combat infantry division during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Sandra Jean Thomas on October 22, 1967, in Kirksville, MO. This union was blessed with two children, Scott and Travis. They celebrated over 55 wonderful years together. Dave earned his Master's Degree in education and taught history at Warrenton High School for 28 years. While at WHS, he started the golf team and coached boys' basketball. Dave enjoyed reading in his spare time and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Green Bay Packer fan. Dave also loved to be outside, he enjoyed playing golf and running. He ran in 12 marathons and numerous 5K, 10K, and 1/2 marathons. He loved biking on the Katy Trail as well as hiking and traveling with his wife. Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Dave Dent was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Jean Dent; grandparents, Lafe and Sylvia Dent and Ed and Muriel Sinclair; in-laws, Wayne and Donna Thomas; brother-in-law, George Thompson. Surviving family members are his loving wife, Sandy Dent; two sons, Scott Dent (Randy Versheldon) and Travis Dent (Denise); five grandchildren, Blake, David, Madison, Kinze, and Joey; a host of other relatives and many friends.

We will celebrate the life of David Dent on Thursday, April 6, from 10 A.M. -1 P.M. at Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton. A Celebration Service will begin at 1 P.M., also at the funeral home. The burial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations made in honor of Dave are suggested to St. Jude's, c/o Martin Funeral Home.
