A new CertainTeed Corporation manufacturing complex under construction in Jonesburg has the power it needs to move ahead now that Ameren Missouri has finished building new gas lines to serve the site.Ameren Missouri infrastructure improvements also may help pave the way for additional development along an Interstate 70 corridor targeted for economic growth.“Ameren Missouri has finished installing two new stretches of gas pipeline — adding roughly four miles of new pipeline in all – to add the capacity CertainTeed will require for both its warehouse and manufacturing operations,” said Mike Holman, Ameren Missouri’s director of gas operations.CertainTeed, a Pennsylvania-based subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, is building a $100 million manufacturing and distribution center on 186 acres straddling the Warren-Montgomery County line at Scudder Ranch and I-70 South Service roads, about 60 miles west of St. Louis. Along with a 150,000-square-foot roofing product warehouse that CertainTeed officially opened last summer, the site is slated to hold an office and a 60,000-square-foot roofing shingle manufacturing facility. CertainTeed officials predict the new complex will add about 100 permanent jobs to the area and 400 ancillary jobs in trucking, welding and maintenance services.“The infrastructure improvements made by Ameren Missouri not only helped secure this substantial investment by CertainTeed, but also have strengthened the development potential of a corridor,” said Josh Beck, president of Community EDGE, LLC, an area economic development consulting firm. The first stretch of pipeline starts at Geeding Lane off Highway H just north of Troy, and heads south to link to an existing gas line at Sweet Gum Court. The second stretch of new pipeline runs along the north side of I-70 from Route E and I-70 North Service Road and crosses I-70 to serve the CertainTeed complex. In addition, Ameren Missouri has been providing electric power to CertainTeed since fall of 2013 and plans to beef up the area’s electrical system. Ameren Missouri plans approximately $2.3 million in system upgrades beginning in 2015, including power line work to serve the CertainTeed site and improvements to the Jonesburg electrical substation.Beck, whose firm represents the Greater Warren County Economic Development Council and the Greater Montgomery County Economic Development Council, believes Ameren Missouri’s utility extensions will help make plans for the roughly 300 acres between Jonesburg and Warrenton a reality.CertainTeed and Ameren
