Warriors, Wildcats get off to fast start on the soccer field

The girls soccer teams at Warrenton and Wright City have each opened the season with fast starts. 

Heading into this week, the Warriors have won three of their first five games and are riding a three-game winning streak.

Last Thursday, Madilynn Lombardo recorded four goals and two assists in an 8-0 rout of Mexico. Kylie Overkamp and Isabella Roberts had two goals apiece. Roberts also had five assists. 

Two days earlier, Lombardo had three goals and one assist to lead Warrenton to a 4-2 win over Hannibal. Coryn Higby had a goal and Evi Rhama had an assist.

Wright City has opened the year with two victories, led by the goal scoring from junior Hannah Kendall. 

The junior has recorded a hat trick in both games, a 3-0 win over Liberty Christian on Friday and 4-1 win over Mexico on Monday. 


Warrenton opens with 2-2 record: The Warriors have won two games to even their record at 2-2 overall. 

On Tuesday, they topped St. Charles West 7-6. Last Wednesday, they knocked off Duchesne 20-14. 

They trailed 4-3 after the opening inning, but stormed back with a 12-run third. They tacked on more runs in the next three innings.

Gable Fowler, Kannon Hibbs and Hunter Sherman each had two hits. Joe Goldsmith, Fowler and Sherman had two RBIs apiece.

On the mound, Hibbs earned the win. Of the four runs he gave up, only one was earned in 2 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked one.

Wright City picks up first win: The Wildcats recorded their first win of the season Tuesday with a home triumph over Elsberry.

The Wildcats opened the season with three losses and two ties.
