Warrenton resident arrested for stabbing man in the chest

Hospital staff said a Warrenton-area man was lucky to be alive last week after he was stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife, according to the Warrenton Police Department.

The stabbing was reported just before 7 a.m. on Nov. 11, by a victim who was located in Truesdale, according to a police report. The victim was taken to SSM Lake St. Louis Hospital, where staff later told police that he had sustained a cut that was 3 inches wide and 2 inches deep. Staff told police that the victim “was fortunate to be alive due to the stab wound missing vital organs in his chest,” according to the police report.

Suspect Kyle Edwards, 24, was arrested the same day and charged with first-degree assault, court records state. He is being held at the Warren County Jail without bond.

Police said the stabbing victim identified Edwards as his assailant as he was being treated by paramedics, and reported the assault had happened at Edwards’ home on Third Street in Warrenton. Police located Edwards at the home, and said that when he answered the door, Edwards’ hand and jacket appeared to have blood on them.

Edwards was taken into custody after a brief struggle, police said.

Police reported that a third person was present at the home when the stabbing happened, but did not witness the incident. The person told police they fled the residence with the victim, and that Edwards attempted to slash their tires as they were leaving.

The assault charge against Edwards is a class B felony. Edwards had an initial hearing in Warren County Circuit Court on Nov. 12 and has a status hearing set for Nov. 23.

Edwards is being represented by St. Louis attorney Scott Rosenblum, who is best known in this area for successfully defending client Ashley Hunter in a January 2019 murder trial.
