Libraries require masks, restrict some services

The Scenic Regional Library Board of Trustees voted unanimously, 13-0, at their Nov. 17 meeting to require all patrons to wear face masks in their facilities. The new policy will be effective on Friday, November 20.

The decision was based on staff input, dramatically-rising new COVID cases, and soaring positive testing rate in the area.

The library will offer a disposable face mask to patrons without one.

Scenic Regional Library has also suspended the following services until further notice:

1) Passport services
2) Notary services
3) Take-a-ticket training (one-on-one computer help)

“We believe that the close proximity between staff and patrons that is required to perform these services poses an unnecessary health risk to all those involved,” said Scenic Regional Director Steve Campbell in an announcement of the changes.

In addition, effective this week, all job interviews for open positions at the library will be conducted by Zoom.

The library will remain open to the public during its normal service hours. The library also continues to offer curbside service for the public at all locations.
